The 10th Edition of NALASRA Games 2018, which was hosted by the Otjiwarongo Municipality from the 07th-11th May 2018, was concluded successfully.
The Games were officially opened on Monday, 07th May 2018 by the Minister of Sports, Youth and National Services Honourable Erastus Uutoni. The Mayor of Otjiwarongo Honourable Bennes Haimbondi delivered the welcoming remarks whilst the Governor of Otjozondjupa Region gave a brief statement and introduced the Minister to the Podium. The Chairperson of the Management Committee Hon. Hilda Jesaja delivered the closing remarks and the games were officially declared open with the symbolic penalty kick by the Minister.
Weekly Night Activities
Bernini Night Wednesday, 09 May – 18:00 Paresis Park
The participants were presented an opportunity for something spontaneous and exciting that injected a bit of sparkle and style. Different flavours of Bernini ciders were available for sampling. This was made possible by Namib Distillers.
Mayoral Dinner Wednesday, 09 May – 19:00 Paresis Park
As an on-going tradition for the host Mayor, a networking dinner was hosted in honour of the Councillors and CEOs from the participating towns. Four (4) representatives from each Local Authority were invited to the dinner. The dinner started with a short programme where the Mayor encouraged the LA’s to network and share best practices with each other. Councillor of Sports Portfolio, Hon. Esmeralda !Aebes gave a short motivational speech where she emphasised that staff members should be encourage to always participate in sports at work and not only wait for NALASRA and SAIMSA games to get fit, but to include it in their daily lives as a means of own personal health as well. The guests were treated to a warm scrumptious meal while KALUX and Adora entertained them for the night.
Hot, Chilled & Marcho Night, Friday, 11 May 17:00 Mokati Park
Namib Distillers once again sponsored the Friday afternoon’s tasting for the participants. Drinks on offer were assorted Cruz Vodka (Hot) 4th Street Wine and assorted Hunters Ciders and Bernini (Marcho). The tasting tied well in with the Music Bash scheduled for the same night.
NALASRA Music Bash, Friday, 11 May – 20:00 – Mokati Park
Otjiwarongo Municipality treated the participating towns and the community to a free music bash which took place on Friday. The bash had a great line up of artists and the spectators came in numbers to see the likes of the 2018 Artist of the year KALUX, One Blood of the famous song Warakata, Jayden, Ben Mutjatigatjike, Cheetah Dancing Group and DJ Castro. The event ended without any hiccups.
Closing Ceremony, Friday, 11 May- 2:00 – Paresis Park
The Otjiwarongo Local Organizing Committee (LOC) worked tirelessly to ensure that the Games were concluded in good spirit and that all sport codes which were registered for participation by the Local Authorities, were also concluded successfully with the final matches. The ceremony was attended by Otjiwarongo Mayor Hon. Bennes Haimbondi, MC Chairperson Hilda Jesaja, Mayor of City of Windhoek Hon. Muesee Kazapua and Councillors from other towns. The ceremony ended at 23:45pm.
No incidents of crime were reported to have taken place during the course of the Games, which made it even more a successful event.
