The Otjiwarongo Municipality on Friday entered into land-servicing deals with two private land developers. Deputy Mayor Archillaus Namaseb, in his official remarks at the signing ceremony, said council is excited to start with the land-servicing process at the town. The two companies are UUM Investment CC, and Conselect Engineering Services.
Namaseb said council is happy to enter into these public private partnership (PPP) agreements which will make sure that council is able to provide residents with close to 1 000 serviced residential, business and industrial plots at the end of the whole process.
UUM Investment CC is expected to service land for residential and business purposes at Otjiwarongo Extension 8 and Orwetoveni Extension 10, while Conselect Engineering will do land servicing at the industrial park.
The companies are expected to tar roads, connect sewage and drinking water pipelines, and also install street lights as part of the land servicing agreement.
The private land developers will bring along their own funds and expertise, and the town council is expected to only avail land with no financial commitments to the project, Namaseb added.
On his part, Otjiwarongo town’s chief executive officer (CEO), Ismael /Howoseb said the Otjiwarongo Municipality last serviced land about 10 years ago due to lack of funds, skills and other resources.
He urged the land developers to speed up the process, adding that residents here are hungry for residential plots. We dont want any delays in this exercise; we have just started with the signing agreement, /Howoseb said.
Conselect Engineering Executive Chairperson, Wiseman Molatzi said his company will start with the design and plan of the earmarked site.
He said the process to design and plan, before any actual construction takes place on the land, normally takes two months. Molatzi said the actual construction work on the land will last for approximately 12 months. UUM Investment CC Chairperson, Gerson Katjimune signed the deal on behalf of his company.
